Support the Cause: Texting while driving law

We are preaching to the choir here when we talk about the dangers of distracted driving. I hope you will all consider attending the press conference detailed below. Please also note that AAA has a BOCC team (albeit a small one!) and our friend and OmahaBikes member, Chris Seitzer, is a part of it. Having a contingent of cyclists visible at this press conference is a strong message!

You are invited to attend a press conference announcing the details of Nebraska's new text messaging while driving law which beings next Thursday.

The press event will be held:
Tuesday, July 13, at 10 am
AAA Nebraska, 910 North 96 Street, Omaha, NE

If you plan to attend, please contact Rose White at RWhite(at)aaane(dot)com.

AAA will utilize its new driving simulator to demonstrate how texting severely compromises a driver's ability to scan the roadway, make quick decisions and safely interact in traffic.

I think legislation is critical for raising public awareness but we can’t solely legislate our way out of this issue. I just read that 72% of teens text daily - many text more than 3000 times a month. This issue is in its infancy and its not going away. I decided to do something about it after my three year old daughter was nearly run down right in front of me by a texting driver . Instead of a shackle that locks down phones and alienates the user (especially teens) I built a tool that is a simple app for smartphones - low cost, no recurring fees. We can empower the individual and change will come to our highways now and not just our laws.

I Do consider texting and talking on phone while driving is very dangerous activity it may harm you and as well others along side. but i like you people also consider some other things like eating, make up, hearing radio or tape with high sound which also make driving as dangerous as phone so it's better not to ban which doesn't do much difference of uses age rather force manufacturing companies to make sure to add some gadgets which stop out going text or phone calls when car is running.

And also include awareness lessons about those things in Joshua's Law Online Course as well.
